Front Step Forge is the home of Shawn Cunningham, an artist and blacksmith who has been happily hitting hot steel since 1992. Tucked away in a small industrial corner of Edmonton, his shop is where raw steel goes in and beautiful, practical things come out: hand-forged tools for blacksmiths, bladesmiths, knifemakers and jewellers, plus gifts and home pieces for anyone who appreciates something made the old-fashioned way. No two pieces come out exactly alike, and that's exactly how Shawn likes it.
For Shawn, the forge has never felt like work; it's the best excuse to play with fire every day. Whether he's drawing out a set of tongs, forging a custom railing for someone's home, or teaching a first-timer to swing a hammer at the Smite Blacksmith Academy, the goal is always the same: make something that's built to last and a joy to use.
